meet comfy

Comfy (they/them) is a spherical, yellow monster, and the most honest expression of myself and my trans non-binary experience. As a puppet, Comfy embodies softness, whimsy, and packing an unexpected punch. Their form allows them to completely reject gender (and even age), allowing them to shapeshift and challenge standards of gender expression and sexuality. Their approachability as a puppet also makes them a perfect conduit for children’s creativity and learning! Comfy is a chameleon: they can cuss out transphobes and hit a bong before teaching a preschooler how to go to bed in five easy steps. They are all of my complexities wrapped up in a fuzzy little bow.

“COMFY!” by Comfy

Comfy was born out of a desire to see more non-binary music artists specifically. My roommate and frequent collaborator was becoming a drag king in 2017, and they asked me what my drag persona would be, my perfect performing self. I’m creating the music I wish I had growing up — challenges and calls to action couched in ferocious beats.

“COMFY!” is Comfy’s origin story and mission statement. After a lifetime of experiencing gender as an unwelcome assignment, Comfy vows to be unapologetically themselves. Everyone deserves to be comfortable in their own skin or fuzz! You can check out the rest of the EP on Spotify!

“gurl gang” by Comfy

Comfy’s second song on their EP, “gurl gang”, gets a fluffy, rosy lyric video! The lyrics are a queer call to action and the video visuals seek to queer femininity and celebrate pink softness. The problem in the Barbie movie was not that every night was girls night, but that Ken wasn’t invited to girls night.

COMING SOON! “Keef + Glitter” by Comfy

The EP’s stoner finale, Comfy celebrates the kief, glitter, and cat litter that goes into everything they do.

Comfy for preschool

“Goodnight, Comfy!”

Comfy’s first adaptation for preschool audiences! With games, music, and animation, this multi-media short walks the audience through the steps of going to bed! Don’t forget to brush your teeth — say “ahhhhh”!

“What are your pronouns?”

Comfy’s second short for younger audiences, this sketch is a catchy parody of “The Twelve Days of Christmas” that reminds the audience to ask for everyone’s pronouns — everyone’s gender is their own! The song is also a helpful demonstration of multiple neopronouns.

Comfy Community

“Comfy Talks: Ivy”

“Comfy Talks” is a series that highlights non-binary voices. I interview fellow non-binary people about their identity and experiences, and then Comfy lip-syncs to the results. The hope is to provide a safe, fuzzy way for people to share their stories. See the first segment, “Ivy”, below!
